| Over the past 18 months, we have been reviewing how our access process works in practice and using feedback from users, partners and colleagues to make it clearer, more proportionate and easier to navigate. This has included looking at how we can improve the experience for applicants, while also making the process more efficient for the internal team who support applications through review and approval.
Members of the Service and data Access Review Committee (SARC) have played a pivotal role in shaping and testing the approach. Their input has helped refine the supporting documents and ensure the process remains clear, proportionate and robust, while continuing to provide the right level of scrutiny for access to data.
As part of these improvements, we are introducing a new two-stage application process. This will allow researchers to explore feasibility and understand what data may be available before investing time in a full application. The aim is to provide earlier feedback, reduce unnecessary work and help suitable projects move forward more quickly, while maintaining the governance and assurance expected of the TVS SDE.
We have updated our website with further details about the new process, and we welcome feedback. If you would be interested in piloting the new two-stage approach, contact us.
